DURAfill – An efficient polymer based expansion joint filler material

DURAfill – An efficient polymer based expansion joint filler material. Now-a-days polymer based expansion joint filler materials are widely used in construction to safely absorb the heat-induced expansion and contraction of various construction materials. It is a known engineering fact that the concrete expands and contracts with temperature and moisture changes and usually provision is made to accommodate movement at predetermined locations with proper joint applications to prevent the development of stresses that could rupture the concrete. Expansion joint filler materials are used to fill these gaps and make the expansion joints water tight.

DURAfill polymer based expansion joint filler materialsVarious types of materials like bitumen, bitumen containing cellular materials, cork strips, rubber, mineral fibre, expanded plastic, pith and coconut are used as expansion joint filler. However, in recent times polymer based expansion joint filler materials are becoming popular and getting wider acceptance in the industry due to their inherent strength vis-à-vis other conventional materials.

For example, DURAfill manufactured by Supreme Industries is an exclusive polymer based product designed to be used as expansion joint filler in buildings and has found wide acceptance in the industry because of its quality and performance.

DURAfill is an excellent polymer based joint filler material for use in either horizontal or vertical applications and is lightweight, highly flexible, and easy to cut or form in the field without waste. Unlike in the case of bitumen based fillers, DURAfill is a non-impregnated material, hence no question of staining or bleeding. Since it has closed-cell structure there is no danger of water or moisture absorption. Also, it will not deform, twist, or break with normal on-the-job handling.  Further it has high resiliency and provides excellent recovery after compression. Further, DURAfill has excellent chemical resistance qualities and therefore, it is unaffected by alkalis, alcohols, detergents, petrochemical products and most of the mild acids.

DURAfill is widely used as expansion joint filler material for RCC columns, beams, walls, and slabs. It finds applications in structural expansion joint in buildings and also in isolation joints between adjacent constructions, e.g. buildings, around manholes, drains and other insets in concrete etc.
